In 2003, there was SARS. In 2015, there was MERS. In 2020, there is need for more vigorous action towards COVID-19 and other new and re-emerging infectious diseases.
As it is stated in Infectious Disease Control and Prevention, medical supplies and equipment etc. for prevention and treatment are prepared in case of a pandemic. Under the Framework Act on the Management of Disasters, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency are designated as the ′disaster management control′ for infectious diseases; therefore, there is a need for storing and managing quarantine equipment.
According to the U.S. OSHA′s (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standard for industrial safety related personal protective equipment levels, Level D PPE (personal protective equipment) should be stocked in storage in case it is suspected that an entire hospital is contaminated.
