1st Official Announcement on establishing overseas research hub
(Sponsored by the Korea National Institute of Health)
1. Preface
The global pandemic response has highlighted the limitations of individual countries' quarantine and health measures, necessitating the establishment of a swift, coordinated response system among multiple nations. There is an increasing need to enhance the capacity to respond to emerging, variant, and unresolved infectious diseases and to build a continuous international cooperation network based on trust.
The overseas Research Hub Project is the establishment of an overseas Research Hub facility based in Southeast Asia but aims to be the Center Point of Research Collaborations between Korea and the Southeast Asian countries.
The research hub shall facilitate:
1) Expanded and strengthened research output on infectious diseases through the conduct of collaborative research activities with Korea and other Asian countries through the KNIID
2) Optimized knowledge through shared gaps, current information available, technology, and research resources.
3) Capacity building and sharing of knowledge through personnel exchange programs and conduct of international conferences and seminars.
2. Project Details
2.1. Title
Establishment of Overseas Research Hubs regarding Infectious Disease
2.2. Project Duration
After the contract, mm/dd/2024 (after—) End date: mm/dd/2027
(1st Year) After the contract, 2024 – 2025
(2nd Year) After the annual evaluation, 2025 – 2026
(3rd Year) After the annual evaluation, 2026 – 2027
2.3. Funding
Annual fund for project will be about USD 165,000 (228,000,000 KRW) per year
The total or yearly budget will be adjusted with the results of evaluation
2.4 Countries
Asian countries capable of conducting collaborative research on emerging and unresolved infectious diseases
2.5. Eligibility of Applicants
Must have a Ph.D. or an M.D.
2.6. Research Areas of Focus
1) Establishment of Overseas research hub
1-1) Procurement of necessary laboratory reagents, and accessories for collaborative research
1-2) Equipment parts replacement for quality control (Chemical treatment, waste disposal, air filters, etc.) of laboratory resources and information
1-3) Establishment of a domestic and international specimen transport system (e.g Royal Cargo)

The application should be submitted in English before July 12, 2024 via email.
