Center for Vaccine Research

About the Center for Vaccine Research

The Center for Vaccine Research aims to complete the domestic COVID-19 vaccine development and secure next-generation independent vaccine platform technologies in order to win vaccine sovereignty and advance as a global leading country for vaccine development. As a national organization responsible for vaccine development, the center will establish a one-stop system from basic studies to commercialization support in addition to public vaccine R&D policies.

  • Operating the lab building and effectiveness assessment building (3 ground floors, 1 basement level)>BL2/(A)BL3 facilities

  • Internally developing public vaccines by using national vaccine R&D facilities

  • Assessing the effectiveness of vaccines by reflecting private demand, supporting facilities and equipment

Private Vaccine Development Support

  • To secure vaccine sovereignty, the Center for Vaccine Research provides vaccine R&D infrastructure support for vaccine development in the private sector in addition to strengthening governance, developing key technologies, and establishing domestic and international cooperative systems.

For private support service, the center has established administrative rules such as Article 8-6 of the Infectious Disease Control and Prevention Act and related notification. It is currently preparing standard operating guidelines that include the overall procedures for private support.

Application for Service

  • For public support notifications and applications, the Center for Vaccine Research is currently operating a website. Once related regulations and guidelines are established, announcements will be posted on the website.

Pathogen Resources

National Culture Collection for Pathogens

  • The National Culture Collection for Pathogens (NCCP) was established and is operated according to Article 8 of the Act on the Promotion of the Collection, Management, and Utilization of Pathogen Resources. With pathogen resource-related networks established in Korea and abroad, NCCP is carrying out operations to secure pathogens and turn them into resources for management and distribution.

  • Establishing and operating the pathogen resource information system

What is Pathogen Resource?

  • As a resource with actual or potential value for the public healthcare research or industry, pathogen resources refer to any of the following:

Pathogens such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa that cause infectious diseases of humans and related information

Naturally existing cellular substances derived from pathogens and derivatives such as antigens and antibodies, and related information

Pathogen Collection/Deposit/Distribution

  • Pathogen Resource Deposit

According to Article 12 of the Act on the Promotion of the Collection, Management, and Utilization of Pathogen Resources, a person who has pathogen resources may deposit them in the National Culture Collection for Pathogens or a specialized bank.

  • Pathogen Resource Distribution

According to Article 14 of the Act on the Promotion of the Collection, Management, and Utilization of Pathogen Resources, a person intending to distribute pathogen resources registered in the Register for the Preservation and Management of Pathogen Resources must obtain related approval from the Commissioner of the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

  • You can apply for pathogen resource deposit and distribution using the online service menu on the NCCP website.
