National approval of the experiments and import involving Living Modified Organisms(LMOs)
The national approval system has been initiated to monitor the import and research related to LMOs including unknown pathogens, introduction of drug-resistant genes, expression of toxins and the 43 HDPs since 2008. Seven cases that Escherichia coli DH5α(2 cases), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, H5N1 Avian influenza virus, Arabidopsis thaliana, Zea mays, required approval for an import involving recombinant DNA molecules in 2016. Among the 113 research projects approved between 2014 and 2016. The proportion of new approval of experiments rose 238%(n=13 to 31) in 2015, and 139%(n=31 to 43) in 2016. In terms of biosafety and biosecurity, the 35 inspection events were carried out inspection by self or national officers in 2016. To control developed LMOs under the national approval system, annual inspections will be carried out.
