2nd Official announcement on international collaborative research for mosquito-borne virus
(Sponsored by Korea National Institute of Health, KCDC)

[Preface]
The Korea National Institute of Health (KNIH), a research organization under the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) and Ministry of Health & Welfare is devoted for promoting the public health through the research on infectious and non-infectious diseases.
Recently, the numbers of mosquito-borne infection such as Japanese encephalitis, Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika has increased in southeastern countries and expanded to other continents by various factors including climate change, globalization, viral mutation. In South Korea, more diverse pathogens including Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) genotype 5 have been circulating.
Therefore, KNIH is developing the diagnosis method to detect mosquito-borne viruses and conducting serological prevalence rate. It needs to verify the efficacy using human specimens. KNIH intend to conduct a cooperative research for laboratory study with Southeastern countries (institutes) on evaluation of diagnosis kit and serological neutralizing activity to mosquito-borne viruses including Dengue, Chikungunya, Zika and Japanese encephalitis viruses.

[Details of the Project]
1. Title: Establishment of collaborative research center for mosquito-borne viruses in the Southeastern region
2. Funding: Annual fund for Southeastern country (Institute) will be provided around USD 25,000 (KRW 30,000,000) at every year. From the second year, the budget will be increased and the final budget will be adjusted with the results of evaluation.
3. Research period: 2019 (after the contract) ― December 2021
- 1st year: After the contract ― March 31 2020
- 2nd year: April 1 2020 ― December 31 2020
- 3rd year: January 1 2021 ― December 31 2021

4. Objectives (Field of Interesting):
- To study of serological prevalence and cross neutralization for Japanese encephalitis virus with vaccinated human serum sample
- To collaborate on the efficacy evaluation of diagnostics developed by KNIH against Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis virus
- To share the research resources including clinical specimens, pathogens, and genetic materials
- To establish research base center in the Southeastern regions by international collaborative study for mosquito-borne viruses
* To study on the proposal of related to mosquito-borne viruses

5. Affiliation: Government Institute, University, Hospital, etc.

6. Reporting system
- The application should be written in MS word English and submitted before 22 June , 2019 via e-mail.
